Games I worked on with others:
                       Detective Gravetrotter

What is the game???

You're a detective going through levels while using statues to get around the maze-like levels. The goal fo the game is to collect the key located in each level to open the gate that will let you progress.

Design process

First Milestone - Jan to Feb

  • This is when we started creating ideas for the game.

  • We also started making the basic skeleton of the game.

    • The team got to use a previous game to use it as a starting point in terms of mechanics and movements.

  • Some stuff that was included:

    • Textures

    • Creation of assets

    • Player movement code

    • Pulling and pushing mechanic code

    • Importing everything into Unity and GitHub

What did I do in this project?

Assigned role

 Tester + Helper

  • Tesing for bugs - making sure it was running properly.

  • Whenever there was an issue with build or GitHub.

Level Design

Responsabilities

Second Milestone - Mar to Apr

White_Planet.png
  • Designing the layout of most levels.

  • Organizing and being the main head of decision making.

  • Implementing the level using the assets provided.

  • Managing the layout of each level and making sure that they're working properly.

Challenges?

  • During this phase, the team was busy dealing with other workload from classes so there wasn't much improvement from the game.

  • Most of the updates were for:

    • Visual effects

    • Adding more levels

    • Background music

    • Changing the look of some assets

    • AI Monster

Things Learned

Better project organization

Rocky_Planet.png

Dealing with GitHub repository issues.

  • There were times where team members would use different versions of Unity or accidentally pushed changes but never pulled them first, causing previous changes to be overwritten.

  • Being able to organize my projects for better re-access and understanding where I left off.

Better understanding of scope

  • Knowing when and what could be cut out because of time constraints.

Dealing with time management.

  •  It was hard to balance outside of school work alongside schoolwork and other parts of the daily life.

Plan ahead

  • Knowing what has to be done and when so last minute crunch-time doesn't happen.
